Animals at Cerrebro

The bees

As surprising as it may seem, our beloved bees, an essential link for 80% of our food chain, breed better in the city than in the countryside. As a result of the exponential growth of human activity, the latter are doomed to extinction (because the use of pesticides).
Every year, millions of bees dies on Earth. That’s why Cerrebro Foundation want to invest in projects to try to save bees, with experienced beekeepers.

Asian elephant

Hunting and domestication are responsible for the decline number of asian elephants. Only 50,000 of them remain, some of whom are domesticated and used as beasts of burden. In addition, ivory from their tusks is highly poached.

Gorillas

Several sub-species of African gorillas, including the mountain gorilla, are threatened by deforestation and poaching. Only a total of 110,000 of this species remain, including 700 mountain gorillas.

Dolphins

These iconic and intelligent animals can be found in oceans, but also in some major rivers such as the Amazon and Yang-Tse rivers. There are 36 species of delphinidae, and some might be extinct within 10 years.

Orcas

The last link in the ocean’s food chain, orcas are among the most common mammals in the world. However, pollution is a serious threat to their future. One study shows that half of the world’s killer whale population, especially those living in the most contaminated areas, has declined rapidly.

Great sharks

In 15 years, the shark population has declined by 80%. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), more than a 100 millions of sharks from 380 different species are killed every year. Hunters collect fins (a popular dish), but also flesh, skin and cartilage, used in medicine.
